Pediatric Health and Nutrition
Resources on the Internet

J.C.Stacey, MBA

The past few years have seen the Internet grow from a resource for academics and researchers to a valuable source of information for the general public. Now, both public and private sector organizations offer information; much of it written for patient-consumers. This information is usually available at no charge, though some require prior registration before the site may be accessed.

In this review of World Wide Web sites, we will provide a sampling of infant nutrition related resources for both health care professionals and parents. Because of the amount of material available, and its changeability, our advisory council could not formally review each item for accuracy. In some cases, sites may quote major authorities, using position statements or guidelines which have since been superseded. Most pages carry an "updated on..." tag giving an indication of the item's recency. In all cases, readers are advised to review any material which they intend to distribute to parents. Reference to sites is provided as a service to our readers and In-Touch can not accept responsibility for validity, pertinence or current status for information sources listed.

Readers are also cautioned to observe copyright restrictions which may apply to reproduction of text for patient distribution. Sites which do not provide information regarding reproduction, usually offer an e-mail address from which such permission may be obtained.
